RDA to install 50 km of safety fences on high-risk mountain roads

The Road Development Authority (RDA) will install safety barriers along hazardous embankments in three mountainous regions following a recent spike in road accidents, a senior official said.

K. Chandrakumara, the deputy director general of the RDA’s Road Safety and Traffic Management Division said under the first phase barriers will be installed in the Uva, Sabaragamuwa and Central provinces.

Accordingly, about 50 km of iron safety fences will be constructed at identified high-risk locations across the three provinces, he said.
