Prime Minister and Minister of Education Dr. Harini Amarasuriya has officially launched national education reforms for Grade 1 students during a ceremony held at the Gunasekara Vidyalaya in Athurugiriya.
Speaking at the national ceremony organized to launch the new education reforms, held today (29) at the Gunasekara Vidyalaya, the Prime Minister said the government plans to roll out the education reforms in stages until 2030.
Prime Minister Amarasuriya also assured that preparations have been made to bring students entering Grade Six this year under the new education reform programme, assuring that no child will be left behind.
She stressed that implementing the new initiative is a responsibility of the government.
Prime Minister Amarasuriya said the reforms aim to replace teacher-centric learning with a student-centric approach, fostering a generation of students guided by values, empathy, and critical thinking.
The Prime Minister added that the reform process will begin with reducing the burden of schoolbags, creating a stress-free learning environment that supports meaningful and inclusive education.
Addressing parents, she reaffirmed that a child’s education will not be determined by family income, noting that ensuring equal access to education is a responsibility shared by the entire government.
