Dondra shooting victim succumbs to injuries

The fish trader who was shot and injured near a supermarket in Dondra has succumbed to his injuries on admission to hospital, police said.
Earlier, it was reported that a man had been shot and wounded near a supermarket in Dondra, within the Gandara police division.
The injured victim, identified as a local fishmonger, was rushed to Matara Hospital for treatment.
The deceased has been identified as Cyril Hendavitharana, also known by the alias “Delight,” a resident of Sinhasana Place, Dondra, who was engaged in the fish trade.
According to police, the victim was travelling in a three-wheeler from Gandara towards Dondra at the time of the incident.
As he approached the vicinity of the supermarket, two individuals allegedly opened fire. The suspects, who had arrived in a grey motor car to carry out the shooting, fled the scene immediately afterwards, said police.
Police believe that the shooting was carried out using two 9mm pistols.
Gandara Police are conducting further investigations into the incident.
