Five injured after van plunges into precipice near Gerandi Ella

Five individuals have sustained serious injuries after a van carrying members of the same family veered off the road and plunged nearly 70 feet down a precipice near the Gerandi Ella area in Kotmale in the early hours of today (02), police stated.

According to police, the accident occurred at around 1:00 a.m. along the Nuwara Eliya–Gampola main road, near a known landslide zone and close to the site of a previous bus accident.

A van carrying four members of the same family along with another individual was returning towards Kotmale, after visiting a person who had been injured in a motorcycle accident. Police stated that the van was being driven by its owner.

It is reported that the accident occurred when the driver fell asleep, causing the van to veer off the road.
