April 9, 2026 06:05 am
Showers or thundershowers will occur at a few places in the Western, Sabaragamuwa and Northwestern provinces and in the Galle, Matara, Kandy, Nuwara-Eliya and Mannar districts after 2.00 p.m., the Department of Meteorology stated.
Mainly dry weather will prevail over the other parts of the island.
Meanwhile, misty conditions can be expected at some places in the Central, Sabaragamuwa and Uva provinces and in the Ampara district during the early hours of the morning.
The general public has been requested to take adequate precautions to minimize damages caused by temporary localized strong winds and lightning during thundershowers.
Meanwhile, due to the apparent northward relative motion, the sun will be directly over the latitudes of Sri Lanka until April 15, the Met. Department noted. Accordingly, the sun will be directly overhead in Chilaw, Bingiriya, Halmillawewa, Panduwasnuwara, Gokarella, Kawudupelella, Koppaveli and Kirankulam at around 12:12 p.m. today.
