Capital punishment to ‘Sarpaya’

The Ratnapura High Court today sentenced to death a Provincial Council member of the United National Party (UNP) in connection with a double murder case which took place in 2001.

PC member Hasitha Muhandiram alias ‘Sarpaya’ was accused of killing two persons by running over them with a vehicle in Kalawana area in Ratnapura.

Muhandiram who was the chief organizer for Kalawana was elected to the Sabaragamu Provincial Council with highest preferential votes from the Ratnapura District under UNP ticket at the 2012 PC election.
