Bathiudeen and Ali to support Maithripala

Leader of the All Ceylon Muslim Congress (ACMC) Minister Rishad Bathiudeen and MP Ameer Ali have decided to support Common Candidate Maithripala Sirisena at the upcoming Presidential Election.
UNP Leader Ranil Wickramasinghe made this announcement after the two MPs arrived at the Opposition Leader’s Office a short while ago.
Bathiudeen, who is the Minister of Industry and Commerce in President Rajapaksa’s Cabinet, had previously delayed announcing his party’s decision, saying the ACMC was consulting its electorate before making a final decision.
Ironically former ACMC Eastern Provincial Councilor Ameer Ali was just recently sworn in as a Member of Parliament (MP) for the seat left vacant by the resignation of A.H.M. Azwer last week.
He currently sits as a National List MP of the ruling United People’s Freedom Alliance (UPFA).
The presidential election will take place on January 8 as Rajapaksa called the election two years ahead of schedule while his former Health Minister is contesting as the Opposition’s Common Candidate.
