January 14, 2015   12:57 pm

Harin Fernando sworn in as the new Chief Minister of the Uva Provincial Council as the Government has failed to maintain a majority.

Fernando took oath at the Governors office in Badulla, this afternoon.

Thirteen UNP members and four UPFA members of the Uva PC have signed an affidavit calling for the appointment of Harin as the CM.

UNP MP Harin Fernando resigned from Parliament to contest the Uva Provincial Council election, last August.

Harin Fernando received the highest number of preferential votes 173,993 at the Uva Provincial Council election contesting for the Badulla District on the United National Party (UNP) ticket.

Shashindra Rajapaksa received 96,619 preferential votes from Monaragala District. Fernando’s victory with a big margin has demonstrated that he was a big favourite of the masses.
