16,000 litres of illegal ethanol nabbed

16,000 litres of ethanol valued at Rs. 1.6 million found in a container imported from Thailand, Customs officials told Ada Derana. The container imported by a company in Ratmalana had been declared as Calcium Hyphoclorite Granules by producing false information to the Customs, Bank and Shipping agents.
The illegal consignment of ethanol were found in 80 barrels would have evaded a payment of Rs. 5.8 million if left undetected.
