Finance Minister Ravi Karunanayake says that former Defence Secretary Gotabaya Rajapaksa is still to respond to his challenge to declare assets, although three weeks have passed.

On February 12, Karunanayake had challenged Rajapaksa to declare his assets after the latter had given a statement to a local newspaper questioning the UNP MP’s purchase of certain properties.

“It has been 3 week now. Still no word (from Gotabaya),” the minister said, at an event in Colombo.

Referring to allegations made by Rajapaksa, the minister asked the former Defence Secretary not to measure other people from his level.

Karunanayake further said that the new government will not allow the current opposition to face the same situations that they had to face while in the opposition.
