The previous governments failed to defeat the LTTE because they were always prepared to kneel before the terrorists, former President Mahinda Rajapaksa said.

The observation was made when the former President attended an event to commemorate all those who sacrificed their lives to preserve the nation’s independence. The event was held at the Vihara Maha Devi Park this afternoon (18).

“The foreign elements also attempted to convince me that it is an ‘impossible’ task to defeat the LTTE. But I took the crucial decision to fight against them (LTTE) for the sake of our country,” he added.

“Anyone can make false allegations against me,” he said, adding that thus he would not let any parties to harm the country in their bid to take revenge from him.
