Colombo-Matara bus gutted in fire

A private bus en route to Matara from Colombo has been completely gutted after fire broke out in the front of the vehicle.

The fire broke out this morning while the bus was traveling through Samudra Mawatha area in Galle, Ada Derana reporter said.

Around 60 passengers were reportedly on board at the time of the incident and they had managed to exit through the rear door of the bus.

No casualties have been reported from the fire, which was quelled in a joint effort by the Galle Municipal Council fire brigade and the Navy fire brigade.

The cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained while Galle Police is conducting an investigation.
