Wellawaya OIC injured in attack during raid

A team of police officers including the officer-in-charge (OIC) of the Wellawaya Police Station have been attacked during a raid to arrest a suspect selling liquor without a permit, police said.

Wellawaya Polcie OIC Vijitha Perera and another Police Constable have reportedly been admitted to the Wellawaya Hospital with injuries following the incident.

The suspect had attacked the OIC with a bottle of liquor before attempting to use a sharp object to attack the other officers.

Police spokesman ASP Ruwan Gunasekara said that the suspect involved in the assault incident has been arrested.
