The country will split into parts in near future due to the government’s move to shutdown army camps in the Tamil majority Northern Province, Ven. Medagoda Abayathissa Thero said.

The observation was made at a press conference held in Colombo on Monday (15).

Abayathissa Thero also condemned the new government’s decision to prepare an officially accepted decoration flag. “The cabinet has approved a proposal to appoint a committee to prepare an officially accepted decoration flag. This is something we never wanted to happen,” Abayathissa Thero said.

Earlier, the government dismissed allegations that 59 army camps were shut down after the election victory at the last presidential election. UNP General Secretary and Minister Kabir Hashim said that these army camps were shutdown during the previous government. However, former President Mahinda Rajapaksa alleged that that these army camps were shut down by his successor government led by President Maithripala Sirisena and Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe.
