The Colombo High Court on Monday (16) granted bail to former DIG Vass Gunawardena and four other accused in the murder case of Bambalapitiya businessman Mohamed Shyam.

However, Gunawardena will have to remain in the remand custody since he has also been charged in another case for alleged possession of firearms, Ada Derana reporter said.

The body of the businessman with gunshot injuries was found in Dompe on 2013, May 26. Later, the police had identified the deceased as 35-year-old, Mohammed Shyam, a resident of Wellawatte.

Earlier, The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) informed the Court that Ravindu Gunawardena, the son of former DIG, had also been involved in the murder. The CID arrested Ravindu Gunawardena on 7 August 2013.
