The Sri Lankan Government has appointed four new ambassadors and one High Commissioner to countries including Australia, Canada and South Korea.

The following individuals have been appointed to the diplomatic positions:

S. Skandakumar – Ambassador to Australia
Dr A.S.U. Mendis – Ambassador to Bahrain
A.A. Jawad – High Commissioner to Canada
Manisha Gunasekara – Ambassador to South Korea
M.K. Pathmanadan – Ambassador to Oman

The latest appointment comes just weeks after the government appointed nine new ambassadors.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs had earlier announced that 33 persons have been nominated to fill vacant Heads of Mission posts overseas but withheld their names pending approvals from the respective countries.

However, appointments are verified only after the respective countries have approve the government’s nominees.

Last February, the foreign ministry recalled more than 50 diplomats from its missions overseas, citing that some of them were political appointments and some non-career diplomats.
