Kalawana OIC among 3 cops suspended

July 16, 2015   10:27 am

Three police officers including the officer-in-charge (OIC) of the Kalawana Police Station have been suspended for allegedly neglecting duties.

Police spokesman ASP Ruwan Gunasekara said that the Kalawana OIC, a Sergeant and a Constable were suspended effective from Wednesday (15).

He stated that the officers in question had failed to control the violent behavior of two groups of individuals inside the police station.

On July 14, a clash had reportedly occurred between two groups of political supporters engaged in pasting posters in the Kalawana Town.

The two groups had then arrived at the Kalawana Police Station order to lodge complaints and had behaved in a disruptive manner.

An inquiry has been launched into the incident led by the Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) in charge of the Ratnapura area.
