In a bid to fulfill the demands of the Tamil National Alliance (TNA), a pact has been signed between the United National Party (UNP) and Venerable Maduluwawe Sobitha Thero, Convener of the National Joint Committee, Gunadasa Amarasekara said.

The observation was made at a press conference held in Colombo on Wednesday (29).

“The UNP did not directly sign an agreement with the TNA, instead it signed a pact with the Sobitha Thero. Former Minister Patali Champika Ranawaka and Ven. Athuraliye Rathana Thero, who were severe critics of the TNA, now attempt to back this plan” Amarasekara added.

Patriotic Bhikku Front General Secretary Bengamuwe Nalaka Thero, while commenting at the press conference, said “Nothing more, Patali Champika Ranawaka does all this drama in a bid to become Sri Lanka’s Prime Minister or the President, one day,”

“This agreement was signed on the same day in which former President J.R. Jayawardena signed the Indo-Lanka agreement back in late 80s. Both these agreements have betrayed the island nation,” said Gevindu Kumaratunga.
