Measures will be taken to modernise the Financial Crime Investigation Division (FCID), if the United People’s Freedom Alliance (UPFA) wins the forthcoming election, former Minister Susil Premajayantha asserted.
The observation was made at a press conference held in Colombo on Thursday (13).
The FCID most of the time drew attention to probe and interrogate complaints with respect to the close associates of the former government. It has also come to light that President Maithripala Sirisena was unaware about the establishment of the FCID. The special police unit has reportedly been established through a subcommittee appointed by the Prime Minister.
Premajayantha also said that though Arjuna Mahendran assumed duties at the Central Bank of Sri Lanka after the new government came to power, he (Mahendran) has not sworn in as the CB Governor yet.
“That because Mahendran is not a Sri Lankan citizen,” he added.
“Prime Minister Ranil Wickramasinghe should take the responsibility of treasury bond issue,” he said, adding that the PM has turned a blind eye to President Sirisena’s request to sack the Governor.
Premajayantha also went into say that UPFA is confident of election win in which the party would secure the victory at least in 14 electoral districts.
