Former MP Kumara Welgama says that he has received letters from the General Secretaries of the SLFP and UPFA notifying of his removal from the UPFA Executive Committee.

Speaking to Ada Derana, the MP-elect said that he received a letter signed by the Acting General Secretary of the SLFP Duminda Dissanayake informing of his removal from the party’s Central Committee.

He stated that the second letter is from the Acting General Secretary of the UPFA, Prof. W. A. Vishwa Warnapala, stating that he has been removed from the UPFA Executive Committee, based on a request from Dissanayake.

However, no reasons have been given for the sudden removal, he said.

On August 17, the Acting General Secretary of the SLFP had sent a letter to the Commissioner of Elections informing him of the removal of 13 central committee members and naming the new members.

(UPDATE) S.M. Chandrasena and Pavithra Wanniarachchi also say that they have been removed from the UPFA Executive Committee and that they have received respective letters.
