The Colombo Magistrate’s Court today (20) allowed former UPFA MP Sajin de Vass Gunawardena, whose passport was earlier seized, to go to Singapore for medical treatments.
The passport was released for five days upon a request made by a Counsel who appeared on behalf of the former Parliamentarian, Ada Derana reporter said.
The Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption had earlier issued a directive to the Department of Immigration and Emigration (DIE) to seize the passport Gunawardena.
He was also barred from leaving the country in connection with another case filed at the Colombo Magistrate’s Court.
The Colombo High Court in September granted bail to Gunawardena who was in custody for allegedly misusing vehicles belonging to the President Secretariat Office.
The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) summoned Gunawardena to record a statement on May 11, where he was subsequently arrested. The former MP was also on bail in a separate case filed by the Bribery Commission for non-declaration of his assets.
