No name change for Nagadeepa Island: Faizer

November 11, 2015   01:13 pm

The Government will not give the nod to change the name of Nagadeepa Island to ‘Nainativu’, Minister of Local Government and Provincial Councils, Faizer Mustapha says.

The observation was made in response to a decision by the Northern Provincial Council to pass a resolution in a bid to amend the name of Nagadeepa Island.

Nagadeepa is a small but notable island off the coast of Jaffna Peninsula in the Sri Lankan Tamil dominated Northern Province. The name of the island alludes to the folklore inhabitants, the Naga people, according to sources.
