Robber, security guard killed during bank robbery

A bank robber and a security guard have been killed in Kekirawa, a short while ago on Wednesday (11) afternoon, after a hand grenade which the robber had in his possession exploded, the police say.


According to the police, hand grenade exploded when the security guard had attempted to stop the robber.


Both robber and the guard who sustained life threatening injuries following the explosion had died while they were being admitted to the Kekirawa District hospital, the police added.


Four other persons who sustained minor injuries have also been admitted to the same hospital. The remains of the deceased have been deposited at the hospital mortuary pending autopsy.
