A 34-year-old individual has been abducted by a group of six persons arrived in a Land Rover Defender which reportedly owned by Parliamentarian Hirunika Premachandra, the police Spokesperson ASP Ruwan Gunasekara says.

The victim who is a resident of Kolonnawa was abducted by the group last afternoon in Dematagoda area, Gunasekara added.

According to the police, the suspects have assaulted the victim and abandoned him in Dematagoda. The individual has been admitted to the Colombo National hospital for treatments.

“Later the police traced the vehicle’s ownership through the Department of Motor Traffic (DMT). Then only we realised that the Defender is owned by Premachandra,” said Gunasekara.

The police have already identified the suspects who involved in the abduction incident, he said, adding a manhunt is underway to arrest them.

“The investigation team is of the view that Premachandra has nothing to do with the case. A clandestine love affair between the victim and one of the suspects’ wife has triggered the incident, we believe,” he added.
