No increase in bakery product prices

January 12, 2016   12:03 pm

The Bakery Owners Association says that there will be no increase in the selling prices of bakery products.

Chairman of the Association N.K. Jayawardena said however the prices of raw materials for bakery products have been increased with several taxes proposed in the Budget 2016.

However, refuting reports that the price of wheat flour has been increased by Rs 2 per kilogram, the Consumer Affairs Authority (CAA) earlier said that legal action would be taken against companies which have increased prices without prior approval.

Under the Consumer Affairs Authority Act, the maximum retail price of Wheat Flour (unpacketted) has been set at Rs 87 per kilogram.

Issuing a statement, the CAA said that despite this fact incorrect information has circulated among the public through various media claiming that the price of wheat flour has been increased by Rs 2 with effect from January 05, 2016.
