January 14, 2016   03:45 pm

An interim report with respect to the controversial death of a man who died during a clash with police in Embilipitiya has been submitted to the Police Commission, it was reported.

The interim report contains the findings of an investigation led by the police, a senior police officer said.

The preliminary investigation in connection with the case had been launched under the supervision of the Senior DIG of the Sabaragamuwa Province.

A copy of the report has also been submitted to the IGP, the police officer added.

The man’s death had also triggered a harthal and protests in Embilipitiya after angry mobs set fire to tires on the roads last week. It was reported that two policemen had asked for liquor from the homeowner after the start of a house party and the ensuing argument between villagers and the police officers had escalated into fisticuffs.
