Woman arrested with gold biscuits worth nearly Rs 40m

A 50-year-old woman from Chavakachcheri has been arrested today with 70 gold biscuits worth nearly Rs 40 million, police spokesman ASP Ruwan Gunasekara said. 

She was arrested with the gold, weighing 7kg in total, near the Sangani railway station in Chavakachcheri, Jaffna according to information received by the Jaffna SSP.

The woman had arrived from Madaval in Jaffna in a van at around 4.00am.

Police found 70 gold biscuits, each valued at Rs 562,000, in her possession and therefore the total gold is estimated to be worth Rs 39,340,000.
