The Judicial Medical Officer’s report has confirmed that injuries and severe internal bleeding combined with shock as the cause for death of the youth following a clash with police in Embilipitiya.

Attorney-at-law Udul Premaratne said that the Embilipitiya Additional Magistrate Prasanna Fernando informed court regarding cause of death following the conclusion of the postmortem examination.

The Magistrate instructed the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) to conduct investigations accordingly, arrest suspects and produce them before the court.

Sumith Prasanna Jayawardena, a father of one, died after falling from the top floor of a building following a clash involving police officers during a celebration at a residence in Embilipitiya.

However, Premaratne stated that the magistrate only revealed the cause of death as determined by the postmortem examination and not how the death occurred or whether he was murdered.
