Four monks remanded over Homagama court unrest

The Homagama Magistrate’s Court today remanded four Buddhist monks who had surrendered in connection with the tense situation outside the court premise recently, till March 01.

Ven. Biyagama Suseema Thero, Ven Pitigala Dhamma Vineetha Thero, Ven. Matuwagala Dhammasiri and Kirama Devinda Thero surrendered to Homagama Police last evening and were produce before the magistrate today (20). 

The monks were accused of rioting outside the Magistrate Court on January 26 when the chief of Bodu Bala Sena (BBS), Galagodaaththe Gnanasara Thero was remanded for contempt of court and threatening the wife of missing journalist Prageeth Eknaligoda.

The General Secretary of the Ravana Balaya, Venerable Ittekande Saddhatissa Thero and President of the Sinhala Ravaya, Venerable Akmeemana Dayarathana Thero are among a total of 10 Buddhist monks and 5 laymen currently in remand custody over the incident.
