Brussels attacks highlights need for urgent dialogue on terrorism: PM

Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe says that the recent terrorist attacks in Brussels highlights the need for an urgent dialogue on terrorism that must include steps in addressing it effectively.

In a message of condolence to his Belgian counterpart Charles Michel, the PM said that he was deeply saddened and shocked by the attacks which resulted in a shocking loss of life and injury.

He said that Sri Lankans understand well the difficulties faced by the international community concerning atrocities of this nature having experienced the horror of terror attacks themselves. 

“As always, we have nothing but condemnation for such acts of violence.”

“We believe that this incident highlights the need for an urgent dialogue on terrorism that must include steps in addressing it effectively,” Wickremesinghe said.

Leaders around the globe have spoken out against the attacks in Brussels. Flags are being flown at half mast throughout Europe in solidarity with Belgium.
