April 14, 2016   11:54 am

The Acting Inspector General of Police S.M. Wickremesinghe has ordered the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) to investigate the theft of 6 firearms from the Laggala Police Station.

A T56 rifle and 5 revolvers were stolen from the police station at around 1.00am today (14) by an individual who had opened the locked armory.

A Reserve Police Constable (RPC) had been in charge of its key at the time of the theft.

According to the police spokesman, the suspect who had stolen the firearms was dressed in a sarong and shirt while he had not taken any ammunition.

A total of 4 policemen were on duty at the police station when the incident had occurred and they have been submitted for tests to determine whether they were drunk while on duty.

Earlier the Acting IGP had ordered the Senior DIG in charge of Central Province to conduct an immediate investigation into the incident.
