The blood samples of the cops who were on duty at the time of Laggala police station weapons theft have been sent to the Government Analysis Department, a source said.

Earlier, three police officers who were on duty at the Laggala police station the day that 6 firearms were stolen were interdicted.

The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) has recorded statements from 20 cops in connection with the incident so far.

Following a search carried out based on information received, police officers however had found the firearms near a water tank in the premises of the Sandagala Viharaya in Wellewela, around 5km from the Laggala police station last Saturday.

Police suspect that the individuals who stole the guns had left them behind at the temple premises. A T56 rifle and 5 revolvers were stolen from the police station at around 1.00 am on Thursday (14) by an individual who had opened the locked armory. However, no ammunition had been stolen by the suspect. Three police officers who were on duty at the Laggala police station at the time were interdicted.
