I will quit as Minister if Mahinda comes to Galle - Dayasiri

Sports Minister Dayasiri Jayasekara today accused former Minister of Economic Development Basil Rajapaksa of fulfilling a “contract” for the United National Party (UNP) with the assistance of a neighboring country.

He claimed that Rajapaksa’s intention is to create a division within the Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) and that he is receiving the money necessary for this from a neighboring state.

Addressing a press conference at the SLFP headquarters in Colombo, Jayasekara said he has no issue with relinquishing posts and that he would resign from his ministerial portfolio if former President Mahinda Rajapaksa attends the SLFP May Day rally in Galle.

The minister said that he knows the former President would never participate in the Galle rally.

Former MP Shantha Bandara, who also attended the media briefing, said that 2,300 buses will be used to bring party supports to the SLFP rally in Galle.

He stated that the party intends to present several proposals for workers at the rally.
