Meeriyabedda residents request another safe location to live

The residents of Koslanda area in Meeriyabedda which has been recognized as a landslide prone area have requested to resettle them in an another safe location, an official said.


At the moment there are some 90 families live in Koslanda, it was reported. 


The location was recognized as a landslide prone area by the Disaster Management Center (DMC) following a massive landslide occurred on 29 October 2014.


Some 39 persons were killed and over 818 persons were displaced due to the tragedy. 


However, the National Building Research Organisation later announced that it assisted the resettlement of Meeriyabedda landslide victims and a new housing scheme was being built by the Government at Makaldeniya Division, Poonagala Estate with 64 new housing units for the victims.
