All schools in the island will be closed tomorrow due to the inclement weather prevailing in the country, Education Minister Akila Viraj Kariyawasam announced.

“Tomorrow has been declared a holiday for all schools in the country,” he told a press conference in Colombo today (19).

He also said that they have received reports of government-provided text books being washed away by floods in certain areas and that the Ministry of Education will take necessary steps to redistribute them.

He stated that the ministry has sufficient text books in storage and that they will be distributed to affected schools through the principals and zonal directors of education once the accurate data is received.

The minister said that school uniforms will also be distributed if necessary as there is enough uniform material in storage due to the voucher system being implemented.

He stated that the education ministry also intends to collect and distribute other school equipment to students affected by the floods.
