The Leader of the Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP), Anura Kumara Dissanayake, says that the JVP is a civilized party which has produced disciplined individuals and that the example set by MP Vijitha Herath is important to all the people.

He was addressing a press conference held in Colombo today (1) to brief media regarding the accident involving JVP Propaganda Secretary Vijitha Herath and the accusations which ensued.

He stated that the accident, which took place on Monday (30) night in Rajagiriya, occurred when the MP attempting to avoid hitting a pedestrian who crossed the road crashed into a telephone pole on the road side.

The JVP leader inquired whether saving that individual from being run over by the vehicle has now become a crime.

He stated that Vijitha Herath himself called for the police after the accident and that he came forward to face legal proceeding as he was the driver at the time of the incident.

Our party has created disciplined members who accept their mistakes without placing the responsibility on someone else, Dissanayake said.
