Former Minister Wimal Weerawansa claims that by urging the government to take more steps to create coexistence in Sri Lanka, the United Nations wants the government to take immediate steps to console and satisfy Tamil separatism and other minority extremism.
He was referring to the statement delivered by UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Zeid Ra’ad Al Hussein at the 32nd session of the Human Rights Council in Geneva yesterday.
Speaking at a press conference in Colombo today (30), he charged that by co-sponsoring the resolution adopted on Sri Lanka at the UNHRC last year, the government has been bound to establish an “hybrid war crimes court”.
Weerawansa stated that the government cannot deceive the Sri Lankan people by claiming it will be a domestic mechanism after accepting and supporting the UN resolution. “The Foreign Minister has already agreed there.”
The UPFA MP alleged that the incumbent Sri Lankan government is the first in the world to establish a “factory” to produce allegations against the armed forces responsible for defeating the internal terrorism in the country.
He said that no other country in the world including western nations such as the US and the UK have investigated their own military after a war.
