Four arrested over lorry, rice and cash robbery

Four suspects have been arrested over the robbery of a lorry transporting rice worth over Rs 2.2 million and cash in the Mahawa area.

The suspects were arrested in an operation based on information received by the Mahawa Police.

They are accused of robbing a lorry with 342 sacks of rice worth around Rs 2,258,920 as well as the cash in the lorry on Tuesday (26).

The stolen lorry and the stock of rice have been recovered by police following the arrest of the suspects, police headquarters said.  

The suspects are residents of Mahawa and Ambanpola areas and were remanded till August 03 after being produced at the Nikaweratiya Magistrate’s Court.
