CBK mistaken to think we would attack Bandaranaike monument - Namal

UPFA MP Namal Rajapaksa says that former President Chandrika Bandaranaike is mistaken if she thinks that supporters of the Joint Opposition will throw stones at the memorial of S.W.R.D. Bandaranaike, who is the founder of the Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP), during the ongoing Pada Yatra.

“We are the ones who are protecting the policies of the real Sri Lanka Freedom Party,” he said, speaking to reporters near the memorial in Horagolla during the protest march which is heading towards Colombo.

My father protected the SLFP even when members of the Bandaranaike family including her were abandoning the party, he charged.

He stated that even today they are protecting the policies of the SLFP and not that of the UNP.

Joint Opposition supporters had reportedly lowered their flags, removed headgear and silently marched past the Bandaranaike memorial.

Former President Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunga had requested the Inspector General of Police (IGP) to provide additional protection for the memorial as she had been informed that the protesters were preparing to damage the monument.
