Businessman shot dead in Ambalangoda

A businessman and former first-class cricketer has been shot and killed by an unidentified gunman in the Manimulla area in Ambalangoda. 

Police said the shooting had occurred at around 9.00pm last night while the victim, Halambage Premasiri, was on his way home in his SUV.

It has been reported that the victim’s son was also inside the vehicle at the time of the shooting.

The 53 –year-old father of three, who is also said to be the Chairman of the Galle District Cricket Association, was rushed to the Balapitiya Base Hospital in critical condition. 

However, he had succumbed to injuries before being admitted to the hospital. 

The reason for the killing and any suspects are yet to be identified while Ambalangoda Police is conducting further investigations. 

The magistrate’s inquiry has been carried out by the Balapitiya Acting Magistrates Z.P.M. Liyakath this morning.
