The Joint Opposition is ready to have a discussion on the Office of Missing Persons with the President, MP Keheliya Rambukwella says.

The observation was made at a press conference held in Colombo this afternoon (15).

The former Minister also severely condemned the move to present the said Draft Bill to the parliament as an emergency Act.

He also went on to say it seems it was the government in the first place that demonstrated the importance of forming an Office of Missing Persons to the international community.

“There was not any interference by the international community, but apparently the government had requested the new Act,” he added.

However, Convener of the National Joint Committee, Gunadasa Amarasekera while speaking at a press conference held in Colombo alleged the government had to pass the Act without any delay ahead of proposed visit of United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon.
