Private bus driver gets 3 months in jail for DUI charge

A private bus driver who was arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol has been sentenced to 3 months in prison by the Colombo Hulftsdorp Court.

 Police had received information that a private bus plying the 138 route from Pettah to Homagama was obstructing traffic near Lipton’s Circus this morning (23).

Traffic police officers attached to the Cinnamon Gardens Police had stopped the bus and arrested the 46-year-old driver, who was under the influence of alcohol at the time. 

He was sentenced to 3 months in prisons as well as a fine of Rs 7,500 after being produced at court, police said.

His driver’s license was also suspended for a period of 6 months.
