Legal action taken against 532 shopkeepers

Following raids carried out during the Food Safety Week, steps were taken to file legal action against 532 shopkeepers for selling food items unsuitable for human consumption, the Health Ministry said.

It said that a total of 12,275 shops were inspected since Monday (August 22). 

Meanwhile around 14,722 beverages were discovered without displaying mandatory color codes, the Health Ministry said.

Steps were also taken to destroy 10,824 foods items unsuitable for consumption found during the inspections. 

The Health Ministry said that 1,800 Public Health Inspectors are engaged in detections around the country during the food safety week which will continue till August 29.
