Police fired teargas and water cannons to disperse university students staging a protest march and blocking the Galle Road near the Kollupitiya junction, a short while ago.

The protest was organized by the Inter University Students Federation (IUSF) against the private medical college in Malabe (SAITM) and demanding an increase in the university intake.

The protest march commenced from the University of Sri Jayewardenepura this morning and was heading towards Temple Trees in Colombo.
