Former Deputy Minister Sarath Kumara Gunaratne has been arrested by the police over an accident in 2002, the police said.

The former Deputy Minister was arrested as he surrendered to the Negombo police through a Counsel this morning (24).

A fresh investigation into the accident was initiated after a complaint was lodged with the police stating that a person was killed and another was injured following a crash involving Gunaratne’s vehicle in 2002. However, earlier it had been mentioned that a vehicle attached to the security detail of the former Deputy Minister was involved in the crash, Ada Derana reporter said.

Sarath Kumara Gunaratne will be produced before the Negombo Magistrate’s Court today.
