Many major irrigation projects will be initiated in next few months – President

President Maithripala Sirisena stated that our country always achieved victories through major irrigation projects and marking a dawn of a new era in the agricultural sector of our country, the works of many major irrigation projects will be initiated in the next few months.

He made these remarks participating in the 30th Annual General Meeting of the Mahaweli Engineering Society held at the Hector Kobbekaduwa Agrarian Research and Training Institute in Colombo today (28).

At present, the Government has implemented many irrigation projects with the local and foreign financial assistance and also steps have been taken to commence works of many suspended projects, he said.

President Sirisena further said that the contribution of the  Mahaweli Engineering Society is also expected to achieve success in these development projects. He also promised to take steps to solve their salary issue.

The Mahaweli Engineering Society presented a special memento to the President, the PMD reported.

Secretary to the Ministry of Mahaweli Development & Environment, Mr. Udaya R. Seneviratne, Mr. Anura Dissanayake, Director Genaral of Mahaweli Development Authority, members of the Mahaweli Engineering Society , including its President Eng.W.A.Chandrathilaka participated in this event.
