Jaliya Wickramasuriya arrested by FCID

The Police Financial Crimes Investigations Division (FCID) has arrested the former Sri Lankan Ambassador to the US, Jaliya Wickramasuriya. 

He has been arrested for the alleged misuse of state funds, police told Ada Derana.

Wickramasuriya was arrested by the Police Financial Crimes Investigation Division (FCID) at the Katunayake airport last night when he was preparing to travel overseas and produced before the Colombo Magistrate’s Court today. 

He has been charged with allegedly accepting a commission of US$ 332,000 following a contract awarded to refurbish the Sri Lankan Embassy in Washington DC while serving as the Ambassador to the US, under the previous government.
