WPC defeats Development (Special Provisions) draft bill

The Development (Special Provisions) draft bill has been defeated in the Western Provincial Council with a majority of 24 votes. 

A total of 52 provincial councilors voted against the bill and 28 voted in favour while 5 abstained, Ada Derana reporter said. 

The draft bill has also been defeated by the North Western, Uva, North Central, Sabaragamuwa, Central and Southern Provincial Councils while the Northern Provincial Council unanimously decided not to support it.   

Minister of Development Strategies and International Trade Malik Samarawickrama had previously announced that bill will be presented in Parliament in February 2017.
