SriLankan Airlines on Wednesday responded to the video recorded near the Madurai Airport in India which went viral on social media saying that the incident occurred as a protest was being held outside the Madurai airport on Monday.

SriLankan Airlines spokesman Deepal Perera told Ada Derana the incident had taken place while a protest was being held outside the airport and surrounding areas that resulted in preventing access to the airport.

He said the Captain and crew members were obliged to provide a safe and on time service for passengers, thus the crew had to go through the way which was shown to its members by Indians.

The one minute and 45 seconds long video showed crew members including air hostesses crawling through a fence to enter into the airport.

Violence broke out in Chennai and a few other places in Tamil Nadu after police started evicting pro-Jallikattu protesters on Monday. The footage of the incident was first posted on several websites on Tuesday.
