Leader of the Pivithuru Hela Urumaya (PHU) Udaya Gammanpila says that the “true killers” of journalist Lasantha Wickramatunga need to be brought to justice.

Speaking to reporters in Colombo, he alleged that instead individuals who pose a political threat to the government area being identified and suppressed.

The UPFA Colombo District MP said that now the purpose of the investigations into the former Sunday Leader founding editor’s murder is to target former Defence Secretary Gotabaya Rajapaksa.

“This government has a new sickness and that is Gotabaya phobia,” he charged.

Gammanpila claimed that this is the reason why the government is always targeting Gotabaya over murders such as Lasantha and Raviraj.

He stated that when Ranil Wickremesinghe was the Opposition Leader he told Parliament that Sarath Fonseka should be held responsible for Lasantha Wickremetunga’s murder.

“An Opposition Leader will not irresponsibly tell that to the Parliament. He must know something. That’s why he said such a thing.”

“Therefore the investigators of the murder should question the Prime Minister,” the MP added.
